Canyon de Chelly pictorial rug by Navajo weaver Helen Burbank from White House, at Canyon de Chelly. The outside border is a Canyon de Chelly rug pattern with the actual colors of the Canyon. The scene is 33” x 48” in a 67” x 90” rug.
The rug was woven from wool that came from Helen Burbank’s Churro sheep. The wool was hand-carded by Helen, so the entire rug, from start to finish, was made by Helen.
Born in 1948, Helen Burbank was one of twelve children. Helen attended school at Canyon de Chelly. She learned to weave from her mother and grandmother and when she was eight years old, she completed her first rug. Helen known for her pictorials, is specifically proud of this rug showing where she lives now and spent her childhood.
