R246 Chinle Rug
Nice vintage Navajo rug from the Chinle area of the Navajo nation near Canyon de Chelly. It has a selvage cord on two sides and tasseled corners. A classic design with nice old natural and red aniline dyed colors.
Chinle rugs are known for their striped bands of geometric patterns and contrasting colors, typically including gold, yellow, tan, brown, terra cotta, pink, and other earth tones, dyed with vegetal dyes and subtly-colored chemical dyes. Chinle became a distinct Navajo weaving style in the 1920s, a time when several new regional styles emerged.
