 Edward Kennard Yava

Hopi/Tewa/Navajo

Born Keams Canyon, Arizona April 30, 1944

Military:  US Army. Vietnam

Education:  Parker, Arizona High School, 1973; AWC; Grand Canyon College, Phoenix, Arizona, 1981; MFA Program, Arizona State University

Occupation:  Art Council events coordinator, teacher, writer, illustrator, and painter

Exhibits:  NICCAS

Honors:  Grand Canyon College, Phoenix, Arizona Deans List and Native American  Student Award in art, 1978

“After military service in Vietnam, Yava used the GI Bill and government disability benefits to start college in 1975 at Arizona Western College.  Although he has work experience in several areas, Yava stated that he has always wanted to be an artist. 

 He is an enrolled member of the Colorado River Reservation.”
