Description

This Yoruba slit drum from Nigeria is a figure of a man with crested hair, a carved face, and the hollow body being the instrument.  A rhythm beater is attached by a cord. The drum is 24” tall and 5” wide.

The slit drum is one of the world’s oldest known instruments. They have been part of African culture for hundreds of years.  Their functions include storytelling to communication over vast distances.
